What are EV cables?

How does EV cable work?

- Mode 2 charging cable: Commonly found in households, they provide a slow charging process and can generate a maximum power of 2.3 kW.
- Mode 3 charging cable: These types of chargers are found in residential complexes, public parking zones and various commercial locations. They deliver a supply between 3.4 kW to 22 kW and are paired with intelligent functionalities and safety features.
- Mode 4 or CD fast charging cable: These EV cables provide quick charging during long-distance travel and road trips. They deliver the fastest charging with substantial power in no time.
EV charging process involves various steps including:
Step 1: Connect the EV cable to the vehicle’s charging port.
Step 2: A compatibility check is done between the vehicle and the charging station for charging authorization.
Step 3: Once checked, the charging point supplies the required voltage and current to the vehicle. The station converts the alternating current from the power source to the direct current in the vehicle’s battery.
Step 4: Charging systems monitor the charging process avoiding overcharging or overheating of the vehicle battery for safety purposes.
Step 5: As the battery reaches its optimum capacity, the charging process ends. At some charging stations, the power is automatically cut off as the battery gets fully charged.
